The Library Guild of Rancho Santa Fe, the Book Cellar volunteers, and the library staff are sorry to say farewell to the guild’s longtime executive director Sara Shafer. At the same time, everyone is thrilled to see her move into a peaceful and happy retirement so she can spend more quality time with her family.

Shafer has been a dedicated, hard-working and much-loved director, who enhanced the quality of the programs, processes and events she managed, a news release stated.

“It’s been such an honor to work at the guild! I’ve had an amazing time connecting with community members of all ages, our thoughtful board, the energetic library staff, and the incredible guild team and Book Cellar volunteers. I will miss you all! This has been the best job and I’m so proud of the work we’ve done together to keep our library thriving,” Shafer said in the news release.

The incoming executive director is Sarah Z. Sleeper, an author, essayist, poet and longtime columnist for the guild. She has a long professional history working with big and small publications and companies, from SAP, to Qualcomm, to Fortune magazine and San Diego Business Journal.

“I could never fill Sara’s shoes, but I will do my best to keep things on track and positive. I’m so pleased to have been offered the position,” Sleeper said in the news release.
