Quandre “Dre” Bullock scored 19 points and Harry Rouhliadeff and Isaac “Big Fish” Johnson each had 17 as the Hawaii basketball team defeated Cal State Bakersfield 89-74 to move into sole possession of first place in the Big West.

A crowd of 226 in the Icardo Center on the CSUB campus saw the ’Bows improve to 18-5 overall and 10-3 in the Big West. UH and UCI entered the day tied atop the Big West, but Cal Poly upset UCI, leaving the ’Bows alone in first place.

“Shout-out to Cal Poly,” said Bullock, who hit three 3s, grabbed four rebounds and was one of four ’Bows with four assists.

Of his deep shooting, Bullock said, “they just gave me a lot of good opportunities and looks at the rim, and it just felt good leaving my hands. I made one, and it gave me confidence to make another one, and then another one after that.”

UH had assists on 19 of its 28 baskets. The Roadrunners managed only five assists.

The ’Bows led by as much as 66-43 with 11:30 to play. The Roadrunners went on a 13-0 run to cut the deficit to 10. It was 68-59 after Dailin Smith’s 3, the Roadrunners’ first trey after missing nine from behind the arc.

Don’t miss out on what’s happening!

But Johnson scored on a floater, and Hunter Erickson buried a 3 to push the ’Bows’ advantage to 73-59 with 6:29 to go.

After that, the only remaining drama came when UH’s Isaac Finlinson missed two free throws, enabling the remaining fans in attendance to each earn a Chick-fil-A gift card.

The ’Bows play Cal State Northridge on Saturday to complete the road trip.
