(NewsNation) — After months of speculation, there is ostensibly official confirmation of a case involving D4vd and the state of California.

D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, is reportedly considered a suspect in the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez after police discovered her body Sept. 8 in a Tesla that belonged to the musician.

According to legal documents obtained by NewsNation, Burke’s father, mother and brother filed a petition claiming that a court order was issued for them to testify in a California proceeding.

Dawud Burke claimed the summons violates his due process rights, given their residence in the state of Texas. A Texas appeals court disagreed, with a footnote of the ruling displaying a case name: “The people of the state of California versus David Burke.”

It is the first time a formal case name has appeared in any court document connected to this investigation; the files are still sealed.

Steve Fischer, a missing person private investigator who is representing the owner of the property where Burke had reportedly been staying, made the discovery. Photos obtained by Fischer were taken allegedly two days before Rivas-Hernandez was last seen Dec. 31, 2024, and appear to show Burke and friends inside his home that night.

Rivas-Hernandez is not clearly visible, but in this photo, an iPhone believed to be hers is sitting on a table, The iPhone appears connected to the home’s Wi-Fi, meaning router logs could show who was inside that house, and when.

“It will give the time and date that you were there, and how long you were connected,” Fischer told NewsNation.

Fischer told NewsNation the photos came from a camera belonging to D4vd that was left in the Hollywood Hills rental; the camera apparently contained a plethora of other photos.
