A pedestrian has died from injuries sustained when she was hit by a car while crossing Greenfield Road in Southfield on Thursday night, officials said.

According to the Southfield Police Department, the victim was a 29-year-old woman from Detroit who was trying to cross the street outside of a designated crosswalk when she was struck. Officers responded to the scene at around 7:15 p.m., police said.

The woman was transported to a local hospital where she died. Police haven’t released her name.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said. So far, alcohol and/or drug use aren’t believed to be contributing factors in the crash, police said.

The incident remained under active investigation on Friday, police said.
