BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — Thousands of runners are expected to descend on Bakersfield this spring for the 9th Annual Bakersfield Marathon, and organizers are looking for hundreds of volunteers to help make the weekend run smoothly.

Active Bakersfield Alliance announced the Bakersfield Marathon will take place on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the Kern County Museum. Organizers said they are expecting more than 5,000 runners from around the globe to participate.

To support the event, organizers are seeking about 700 volunteers for roles before, during, and after the race, including help with the Health & Wellness Expo on March 21 and race day activities on March 22.

Volunteer opportunities include course monitors to assist with race safety and encourage runners; water and fluid station teams to set up and distribute water and fluid; gear check volunteers to help participants with personal belongings; and medical volunteers, including licensed physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and students, to support medical tents.
