Sacramento Kings’ Zach LaVine is set to have season-ending surgery, report says
How’d you enjoy playing in in Tahoe and the celebrity? I could do that every year you know I’m getting better. But it’s just Tas great you know you can it’s *** celebrity golfer, man. You can’t be in the first place. You’re Stadium *** bunch. I enjoyed it with your son? Yeah, me and my son went to *** decent amount of baseball games. Good luck to my, my brother-in-law Snout, uh, tomorrow with the with the start with the Dodgers. Angels didn’t have the season that we wanted to, but my boy Mike got score on this I’m happy for him. So you know it was fun. How was your offseason though? How, how did you feel like you attacked it? It was good. Every, every time I have *** healthy offseason, I, I do well. So yeah, it was, uh, it was good. *** lot of family time, *** lot of time in the gym. Golf, but now we’re back here in *** midseason. I know there’s plenty of chaos along with that now getting to settle into *** training camp. Do you expect it to be *** little less chaotic and more free? Yeah, I think it’s just more comfortable. You have to do your job when you get traded this season. I think you know we handled the way the best you could. There was *** lot of change over even before I got here, um, but now I think especially with Scott in here, we have, you know, One Direction and, um, singular voice and everyone starting from ground zero, so you can’t, you can’t, uh, you can’t beat that. What was your reaction when you heard that direction and it’s kind of 6 points of buddy wants his team to be and of course you know Doug like what was your reaction to the identity? It was great, um. I’ve, I’ve known Scott for *** decent amount of time even before I got here and and. Seen him and talked to him before and Scott Scott’s *** winner and you know I think with with his direction and with what he wants to do those those six points that he that he points out *** lot of uh. Give you *** chance each and every night to put yourself in position. Do you anticipate, uh, uh, like to the previous point there was *** lot of change last year. You were *** part of some of the, um, is this, does this feel like you guys are going into another season where you kind of have to be kind of prepared for anything or, or like maybe there, there could be some stability throughout the. I mean regardless of whatever situation is thrown at me, I feel like I’m always prepared. Um, I’ve done this enough and I’ve been in enough situations not *** lot of things that surprised me, but from being where we are right now, I think you know everything’s on the up and up. We’re very, we’re very excited to start the season off and and and be. And be you know *** team that’s looking to win and I think we start from round one right here, obviously enjoy talking to you guys, you know, their immediate day everyone gets their smiles on it looks pretty, but then, you know, starting tomorrow we really get to get to work. How much how much do you think you guys can benefit from having like *** full training camp and the start of *** season to do some things offensively and figure out how. Like the pieces can and should work together. I mean, every team needs *** training camp and I don’t care who you are and especially with *** team like us where you know we had *** lot of change over, not just player wise into this year, but you know front office and coaching wise, so it’s gonna be good for everyone to get on the same page and that doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen right away, but we’re gonna do our best to get it nailed out right now. Zach, you know the West is extremely tough. Outside noise doesn’t have very high expectations for this team. Do you like being the underdog mentality heading into the year? I mean, I don’t care, you know we gotta play everybody so it it it doesn’t matter. I mean there’s, there’s always noise there’s always talking, um, and you know who’s really good in the West and you know who’s good, you know, when you play other teams too, but you, you try to do it at least from my perspective, we’re gonna do our best to put our name with those with those best teams, um, if people think about it with us or not because it really doesn’t affect the way we go out there and play. this is domino because on you and the rest of the team having *** better. Yeah, Dennis is great. First off, congratulations to him, especially when he just did over overseas and winning and winning NC. Dennis Dennis has been nothing but *** true pro, and you know we we battled against him. I, I have been in being in the Eastern Conference, um, very feisty but you know, very high IQ and team oriented guard, you know I’m excited to work with him and be able to be with the point guard that that’s definitely been in the big time games and those really good. So I think having *** league guard is, is big. Have you gotten any opportunity this summer to work specifically with with Domas in the two-man game, or are you emphasizing that training camp at all? So me and me and Delmos talked *** lot this summer. Um, Delmas is up in Fort Wayne, Idaho which IBM, which was really nice, but, uh, he, uh, we saw each other in LA *** couple of times and then over the last 3 weeks we’ve actually been coming back in here in Sacramento. Coming in and out and uh we’ve been doing good man we the team came early. We’ve been playing, we’ve been practicing we’ve been getting, you know, reps in not just me and us, *** lot of the guys and *** lot of the young guys have been here, you know, been in here *** lot, which is big, so, um, you know, I think, I think we’re uh we’re all moving in the right direction. Health wise. As good as I did last year, so yeah, I feel, I feel pretty good, man, you know, obviously you get Knicks and bangs about this season. That’s just the right, you know, that’s this NBA, but I feel good. I feel really good and that’s what I was excited about happen with this season obviously or whatever, but now I have to go into the full season. I’ll be approaching differently. Coming in the same way I did every time I this is the first time I ever had to I was traded this season, the first time it ever happened to me, so, uh, I dealt with the best I could and you know we’re trying to win games and obviously, but the training camp is is where you get to where you get to build. You get to, you know, get on each other. You get to figure out what works and what doesn’t, um. Even through preseason, like we all need preseason to training camp. I don’t care how good you are, how long you’ve been in the NBA for, how many games you played. We need that timing and that rhythm and the context, so I’m, I’m excited for it. I enjoy training camp. Were you able to have the voice you wanted last year coming here midseason compared to maybe where you are now? I think, I think last year. I I always try to come here and obviously just I don’t wanna say fit in, but you know I, I think people know me and know my voice, but it’s *** little bit different when you get to know everyone, um, when you have when you have an understanding of what type of player you are and who you are to the organization. So I think having *** full training camp helps out with with that, at least you know, from somebody that’s coming in midway from last year. What comes to mind when you think about what worked and what didn’t as you guys tried to put it all together last year. I mean we’re extremely talented, um, but you know if if we’re not outscoring team, we gotta figure out what what’s gonna be our identity and I didn’t think last year we had an identity at all. That’s what, that’s what Scott and Doug talked about *** lot, um, and if you can lean on your identity even when your offense as well. You always will be, you know, you’ll have *** fighting chance. You know you’re not gonna win every game. We know we’re not gonna go, but um, you know, to have identity and *** singular focus each game with *** game plan of what we’re trying to do, I think that’s gonna be *** lot can you elevate your game? I mean, I think defensively we got to know what our strengths and weaknesses are and how the team can build around that. Effort and competitiveness is the main thing. I mean you’re not gonna go from. You know, somebody like me, I’m not, I’m not gonna be whi let it overnight. I don’t think any of you guys or me are gonna expect that, but you know, I think that the competitiveness, you know, us being able to, to challenge ourselves and not, not, you know, I don’t wanna be scored on. I don’t think anybody does, um, and. I think that’s gonna be the focus of the team is, you know, how can, how can you hold your own yard and then if your teammate does and sometimes you will get beat, how can we be there to help if we have *** support system that helps our weaknesses, I think it’ll be good. What do you make of the rookies Neek and Maxim and how they’ve adapted to the NBA lifestyle already? I mean, I was just messing with them the other day, you know, they’ve been in here for the last 3 weeks, like I said, um, working hard. They’ve probably been here longer, um. Nick is Nick is an older dude that comes to the NBA with *** little bit more NBA body, um, ask *** lot of questions. I had him shoot with me *** lot and I like him. Uh, Max is extremely skilled. Um, I think, I think we’re gonna see *** lot from Max, uh, even just playing. He, he, he knows how to play the game. He has *** good feel for the game, um, so I told him I said, Man, look, you’re everyone’s gonna hit *** wall, you know, it just depends on how hard that wall is for you guys. So just, you know, make sure you’re getting your sleep and your recovery. And you know we’ll we’ll all help you as best to try to take care of you as best we can. Zach, you made it *** point to get to the rim many times last season. Didn’t always get calls. Saw you got some practice in, *** lot of practice with contact this summer. How big is it to your game to continue getting into the room? Getting to the rim? Yes, yeah, that’s part of my game. I’ve been doing that for 12 years. You know, Doug, Doug says it’s, uh, we’re, we’re not complaining to the rest of this year. I had *** game versus I had *** game versus you guys where I had like 37, but I got to align like 10 times and I didn’t get to line 10 times. I don’t think one time with the kings, so you know, we’ll do *** little bit bit, *** little bit better job of that, but I’m gonna play my game regardless if, if, if I’m getting to the lane, if I’m shooting pull ups or if I’m shooting 3, I think, I think I’m pretty good at all those. So what, what do you look forward to in terms of um going up against Keon maybe in in the training camp and how would you rate him as *** defender? Yeah, Keon has some of the best hands I’ve seen even when we matched up, uh, against each other in in in the NBA, um. He guards most of the, you know, the best permanent players and he does *** good job because he’s *** little bit smaller, so you know, but he works at his advantage to where he tries to take that away and uses pressure. I think we are gonna have *** good defensive team this year because Devin’s been really good defensively. Dennis has always been *** menace. I mean, that actually rhyme too. Dennis has been always, you know, somebody that picks up and is aggressive as well. Um, Keegan is great defensively, so you know we have *** lot of, *** lot of guys, defensive minded players, um, and we can all fit in, but you know, to Keyon, you know, Keon, Keon’s been so good, and I don’t think he gets enough credit for how well he shot the ball. We all talk about his defense, you know, *** guy, he shot what, 40%, you guys probably 40, 20%. He like he’s not missing *** lot of shots. He was taking like 3 *** game, you know that’s every game you’re making 2 out of 3 or 1 out like that’s, you know, he can keep doing that. That’s I got 3 under 3 man. I need to stop. I stop. My wife’s sleep ain’t good. is.
