Several significant land sales took place in Fresno County recently with some properties selling for $10 million and up.

The most valuable land deal happening was the $28.9 million purchase of more than 1,000 acres of farmland in southwest Fresno County. The deal involved the purchase of 4 separate parcels.

The buyer is listed in property records as Red Hawk Farms I LLC in Yuba City.

Verve Greens Inc., a Fresno-based almond grower and packer, completed a $10 million purchase of 636 acres near Five Points. The seller was Mark Borba and family, longtime farmers in Fresno County.

On its website, Verve Greens describes itself as owning and managing more than 5,000 acres of almonds in Fresno County since 2011.

“Our growth strategy is to add hundreds of acres of farmland and develop it with careful consideration so that we can continue to provide the world with quality and nutritious almonds,” according to the company’s website.

The Fresno Bee has started tracking these types of agriculture land sales using an AI tool that we developed so we can more efficiently share this news with you. Bee journalists are still using their reporting and writing skills to create the stories for you.

All the farmland tracked by The Bee was within the Williamson Act, a state classification that provides tax breaks to landowners who agree to keep their land in farming or open space for 10 years. The land can be sold, but the new owner is bound by its terms.
