The streaking Robert Morris men’s basketball team will look to continue climbing in the Horizon League standings when it takes on second-place University of Oakland at 2 p.m. Sunday at the UPMC Events Center in Moon Township.

The Golden Grizzlies enter the game in second place in the league, making it a pivotal game for the fourth-place Colonials, who are on three-game win streak and have won six of their past eight.

Robert Morris – the defending league champions – also will be looking for retribution after dropping a 96-73 game to Oakland on Jan. 4 in Michigan.

Oakland has the league’s second-best offense but has lost its last two games. Brody Robinson, who is averaging 16.8 points per game, leads Oakland in scoring. The Grizzlies are 14-12 overall and 10-5 in League action.

Robert Morris is 17-10 overall and 9-7 in conference play.  Coach Andy Toole has his squad within three games of a 20-win season with four games remaining.  Should the Colonials win at least three of their last four games, it would be the second consecutive season that they have won 20 or more regular-season games. Robert Morris finished the 2024-25 season with a 26-9 overall record.

The Colonials continued their hot play of late with a convincing 85-68 win over Cleveland State Thursday. The game, played at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, started in favor of the Colonials, who led by an early score of 17-11.  Cleveland State answered with an 11-0 run to take the lead and, later, an 8-0 run to maintain it.  Robert Morris was just getting warmed up as it went on a 14-0 run of its own, which led to an eventual 45-33 halftime lead.

The second half was all Robert Morris as the Colonials led by 22 points twice.  Even without the services of starting point guard Albert Vargas, RMU shot 51% from the field, a good 38% from the 3-point arc, dominated the boards 40-23 and scored 38 points in the paint.

The Colonials’ defense was stifling, as they held the league’s top 3-point shooting team to only 31% from long range.

Ryan Prather was the primary catalyst on offense as he was 5 of 8 on 3-point attempts and recorded a career-tying and game-high 25 points. Darius Livingston, playing in place of Vargas, scored 15 points, DeSean Goode added 14 points and seven rebounds and Nikolaos Chitikoudis chipped in nine points and seven rebounds.
