The Washington Huskies had no trouble with Fresno State on Valentine’s Day, earning a series sweep of the Bulldogs behind a 6-1 win on Saturday afternoon.

Behind a dominant effort from starter Morgan Reimer, who improved to 2-1 on the year behind 5 scoreless innings in the circle, letting up just 4 hits with 5 strikeouts, coach Heather Tarr’s offense shouldered the rest of the load behind a power surge.

Washington put together 11 hits, including four extra base hits, highlighted by a pair of two-run home runs in the fourth inning by right fielder Gabi Toney, who went 2-for-2 on the day with the pair of runs batted in, 2 runs scored, and a walk. Left fielder Ava Carroll had the Huskies‘ other two-run bomb, her only hit in five at-bats on the day.

Freshman outfielder Kaycie Burdick drove in a run on her first career triple in the seventh inning, while her classmate Allie Thomsen roped a double into the left-center gap in the fourth inning to round out Washington’s four extra base hits. First baseman Alexis DeBoer also continued her strong start to the season with a 2-for-3 afternoon, raising her batting average to .471 through seven games.

Lauryn Carranco took the loss for the Bulldogs and dropped to 2-2 on the season after letting up 6 hits and 4 runs over 3 1/3 innings of work. She hit 3 batters and recorded just a single strikeout before giving way to Alyssa Loza, who went the final 3/23 innings and surrendered 2 runs on 5 hits with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.
