A serial cat killer is suspected to be on the loose after three cats were reportedly killed in the town of Hughson, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office told KCRA-TV.
The deaths occurred in the Riverview Mobile Home Park, where a 9-year-old cat named L was reportedly shot dead on Feb. 8.
According to KCRA-TV, the suspect appears on video, wearing a mask, shorts, black socks and black flip-flops.
“They’re just evil. And there’s no other way to describe it,” L’s owner told KCRA-TV. “… She was just the neighborhood cat that everybody loved. And I think, I don’t know who did this, but I’m going to find out who did it.”
Doorbell video captured the suspect walking up, picking up the dead cat’s body and placing it in a plastic bag before walking off.
According to KCRA-TV, another resident in the neighborhood reported finding his cat and another dead on his property, but the time and manner in which the deaths happened remains unclear.
“We didn’t know what to think because they were just dead,” the resident told KCRA-TV. “… Now we know, now it all ties together.”
The sheriff’s office confirmed to KCRA-TV that they are investigating.
“We’re all terrified, all of my neighbors are scared,” L’s owner told KCRA. “We have children walking down the street from school, we have people walking around at night, walking their dogs at night. This is terrifying.”
