A large group of demonstrators gathered in downtown Los Angeles Saturday to voice their opposition to the regime in Iran and to support the Iranian people’s fight for freedom.

The large demonstration was part of a nationwide Global Day of Action to support Iranian citizens amid deadly nationwide protests.

Crowds gathered near L.A. City Hall and were seen carrying large flags and banners as they marched through the streets of downtown.

The L.A. protest was one of several large demonstrations that took place on Saturday alongside rallies in Toronto and Munich.

The effort was bolstered by Iran’s exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, who called for an uprising and an increase in international pressure on Tehran.

At a news conference Saturday, Pahlavi warned of more deaths in Iran if “democracies stand by and watch” following Iran’s deadly crackdown on protesters last month, the Associated Press reported.

“We gather at an hour of profound peril to ask: Will the world stand with the people of Iran?” he said. He added that the survival of Iran’s government “sends a clear signal to every bully: kill enough people and you stay in power.”

Beginning in late December 2025, as Iranian citizens took to the streets to protest their authoritarian government and economic issues, they were met with riot police, tear gas and live ammunition, Time reported.

Over 7,000 people have been killed in the protests, according to the Human Rights Activists News Agency. Internet access for citizens was shut down on Jan. 8, as the federal crackdown on protesters continued.

“We want a regime change in Iran,” a protester told KTLA on Saturday. “We need the U.S. to support us to liberate Iran, to get rid of the Islamic Republic, which is an occupier.”

“We are here because we want to give a voice to the people in Iran who cannot protest and speak freely against the government,” another L.A. protestor said. “The people of Iran, for 47 years, have been imprisoned. They want change and the only way this change can come about is if there is U.S. intervention and help because they cannot keep fighting and getting killed.”
