SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego Police Department confirmed that a person died after suffering stab wounds in Downtown San Diego on Saturday night.
According to SDPD, units responded to a report of a stabbing near C St. and 8th Ave. around 9:23 p.m. When police arrived at the scene, smoke was reportedly coming from the apartment that the victim and suspect were believed to be in.
The victim suffered stab wounds and was declared dead at the scene, according to SDPD.

The suspect was reportedly detained.
SDPD says the medical examiner will be working to confirm the cause of death.
