LONG BEACH, Calif. – Alex Fernandes went 1-for-2 with a walk, a HBP and a run to lead the San José State baseball team (1-1, 0-0 MW) in a 12-3 loss to Long Beach State (1-1, 0-0 Big West) Saturday night from Bohl Diamond at Blair Field in the second game of a three game series.

The Spartans were limited to five hits on the night, while the Dirtbags capitalized on 13 hits and 11 walks to secure the win.

Long Beach State struck first with a run in the opening frame and added four more in the second inning to build a 5-0 advantage. The Beach extended the lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth before pulling away with a four-run eighth inning.

San José State mounted its rally in the top of the sixth. Fernandes reached and later scored, Rohne Klein delivered a sacrifice fly, and JC Osorio-Agard added an RBI single to cap a three-run frame for the Spartans. 

Osorio-Agard and Klein each finished with an RBI on the evening, while Jake McCoy and Brent Cota each contributed doubles. SJSU was 1-for-3 with runners in scoring position.

On the mound, David Thomas (0-1) took the loss after allowing five runs over two innings. Landon Marchetti, Luca Staiano, Kyler Bacosa and Cade Cushing combined to cover the final six innings in relief.
