Re “Report: Budget issues worsen for city” (Feb. 3): The budget situation for the city of San Diego is, frankly, untenable. The mayor and the City Council refuse to address the spending issues that are within their control. They could use managed competition and put our trash services out for bid, downsize city staff or reform the unsustainable pension system, etc.
Instead, we get underutilized bike lanes, charges for trash pickup and fees for parking in Balboa Park. You can’t make this stuff up. The mayor and the City Council should be fired and the unions should lose their influence.
