Sacramento police released body-worn camera, dash camera and surveillance video footage Friday from a fatal officer-involved shooting Jan. 29 along Exposition Boulevard near Cal Expo.

The shooting happened about eight minutes after a robbery was reported at 4:20 p.m. at the BMO bank branch in the 1600 block of Response Road, about a half-mile south of Arden Fair mall.

Police said in the video release that officers responded to a report of a robbery in progress after a caller told dispatchers a man had taken money from a teller and left the bank heading toward a nearby fire station.

“I believe there’s a robbery in process,” the employee of the bank who called 911 told dispatchers. He said that the robber “had a lot of clothes on.”

When asked how he knew a robbery had occurred, the caller said: “Well, I was outside when this happened, but I don’t have answers to that right now. The employees hit the alarm. … I was on break when this happened. I watched him walk in. I said, ‘You know what? That looks suspicious.’ So I started walking back towards the bank. Sure enough, I see through the window something was going on.”

Surveillance video from a BMO bank on Response Road shows a man later identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Andrew Anthony Baima during a robbery on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026. Police said he threatened tellers by claiming he had a gun before fleeing the bank and point an imitation gun at officers who fired back. Police provided surveillance video from the bank that showed the man pulling money from a teller drawer after threatening two employees by claiming he had a gun.

By the time officers encountered the suspect, he was wearing only a dark T-shirt, according to the video.

Dash camera footage from the department showed the man running east through a shopping center parking lot before running onto Exposition Boulevard, where he faced at least four officers in the roadway as traffic stopped abruptly around them.

Body-worn camera video captured officers yelling commands for the man to get on the ground and put down the weapon. The man can be heard saying, “Back off.”

Video showed the man turn toward officers and point what appeared to be a handgun at them. Two officers then fired six shots, striking him.

Footage from a private vehicle’s dashboard camera, included in the department’s release, captured the moment officers opened fire as the man ran along Exposition before turning toward them with the weapon raised.

Police said officers rendered medical aid and performed CPR after the shooting. Video showed officers cutting away the man’s clothing to treat his injuries before Sacramento Fire Department crews from nearby Station 19 arrived. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Andrew Anthony Baima, 56. Baima was associated with addresses in Elk Grove and Henderson, Nevada, according to a public records search. Sacramento Superior Court’s online index shows Baima, who also went by the name Andrew Vegas, was listed in several felony cases dating back to 2003. The court’s online system does not provide details about the nature of the charges, and the index indicates several of the cases were dismissed.

Investigators later determined Baima’s gun was an imitation firearm, police said.

None of the officers involved in the foot pursuit were injured, police said at the time. The two officers who fired their weapons were placed on administrative leave during the investigation, according to the agency.

The incident remains under investigation by the department’s homicide unit, Internal Affairs Division and Professional Standards Unit. The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office and the city’s Office of Public Safety Accountability are monitoring the case.

Thursday’s incident was the first officer-involved shooting by the Police Department of the year and the first since July, when officers opened fire on a sword-wielding suspect who threatened to kill his friend. The man was treated for his wounds before being arrested and charged for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and resisting arrest, police said. The man has not identified by authorities.
