The U.S. Coast Guard intercepted a vessel with 14 suspected migrants aboard off the coast of Point Loma on Friday afternoon, federal officials said Sunday.

The boat was spotted around 4:30 p.m. about 18 miles west of San Diego by the crew of the Coast Guard cutter Forrest Rednour. The individuals on board claimed to be Mexican nationals, according to a news release.

The group was taken to Ballast Point, where they were turned over to another Department of Homeland Security agency for investigation, officials said.

There were no reported injuries, the Mexican consulate in San Diego said Sunday. Consulate personnel interviewed those who were on board to offer assistance if needed.
