Downtown Fresno's Central Library closes for multi‑year renovation

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A downtown fixture is undergoing a major makeover.

After more than six decades of service, the Central Library branch in Downtown Fresno will undergo a major infrastructure renovation.

As of last January, 40% of the project is completed.

The remaining 60% will include upgrades to the building’s electrical system, lighting and ceiling, and basement renovation.

The facility, which opened on April 13, 1959 is set to temporarily close until 2028.

In the meantime, surrounding communities can visit nearby branches including West Fresno Library, Mosqueda Library and Gillis Library.

Central holds will be rerouted to the West Fresno Library.

Today was the last of service of service for the Downtown Fresno branch.
