UH sophomore Ema Vernoux and freshman Ariadna Temprano Xambo each scored hat tricks to power the No. 5 University of Hawaii women’s water polo team to an 11-9 victory over No. 13 Fresno State in the fifth-place match of the Barbara Kalbus Invitational on Sunday at the Anteater Aquatics Complex in Irvine, Calif.
Agatha Weston contributed two goals and two assists and Gabrielle Doyle assisted on three goals for the Rainbow Wahine (7-3), who completed the tournament with a 2-1 record.
The Wahine led 4-3 at halftime then went on a 5-1 run in the third quarter to take control.
Kneeshaw sets UH 400m record
Hawaii’s Isabella Kneeshaw broke the school record in the indoor 400-meter race by finishing in 54.37 on Saturday at the Battle Born Classic in Reno, Nev.
Kneeshaw, a junior from Tualatin, Ore., broke the mark for the third time in as many tries, besting the previous mark of 55.03. She finished fourth in the race.

UH’s Lilian Turban won the high jump with a distance of 5 feet, 11.5 inches.
Wahine softball splits in CBU Classic
The Hawaii softball team beat Utah State 16-8 in six innings and lost to Loyola Marymount 6-0 on Sunday at the CBU Classic in Riverside, Calif.
Maycen Gibbs homered and Milan Ah Yat drove in three runs as the Wahine scored nine runs in the second inning to pull away from Utah State (7-2). Carys Murakami got two of UH’s three hits as the Wahine (5-3) fell to the Lions (10-1).
UH sailing team earns a third and fourth
The University of Hawaii women and coed sailing teams finished third and fourth, respectively, in regattas each hosted by Stanford University over the weekend.
Martha Schuessler and Ann Tokoyoda raced in the A division. Stella Taherian skippered all races for Elin Reigstad and Leila Landay, who split time at crew. UH ended the event in third place with 188 points.
The coed team of Erik Anderson and Amanda Turner raced in the A division. Everett McAvoy and William Bagley split time at skipper in the B division, with Alister Muto at crew. The team earned 242 total points for fourth place.
