FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Fresno police say a man was arrested, accused of assaulting a person at a bus stop and attacking a police K9 with a chunk of asphalt on Tuesday night.
Officers with the Southwest patrol were alerted Tuesday night around 8:00 p.m., to the area of Calaveras Street and Van Ness Avenue regarding an assault.
Investigators say the suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Keon Pyant, struck a man seated at a bus stop twice in the head with a large piece of asphalt, causing a significant laceration.
The man who was attacked was treated on scene by EMS and refused to be taken to a hospital.
Police say Pyant quickly left the area but was found shortly after by Skywatch.

When a K9 officer made contact, Pyant became uncooperative and was armed with a second piece of asphalt.
Police say Pyant raised the piece of asphalt toward officers multiple times.
Officers sent out K9 Nick, who was hit in the face by Pyant, breaking a tooth, but managed to successfully catch Pyant.
K9 Nick was taken to Fresno Emergency Vet for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
Pyant was arrested and booked into Fresno County Jail on multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, felony assault on an officer, felony assault on a police canine and resisting an officer.
