Matsui lost my vote

Matsui responses spark backlash at Sacramento town hall,” (sacbee.com, Oct. 24)

Public office exists to serve, not silence. But recently, a staff member working for Rep. Doris Matsui abruptly hung up on my call, saying, “We don’t need your vote. Have a great day.” I have voted for Matsui in every election.

As a lifelong Democrat, it especially burns that somebody I’ve always supported no longer “needs” my vote because I am questioning her resolve on the crises in which we find ourselves.

She doesn’t get it.

Fear is justified

Fresno leader: ICE is not a danger or threat to our communities | Opinion,” (sacbee.com, Jan. 6)

People are seeing masked, nameless federal agents armed for the battlefield, tear-gassing, pepper-spraying and shooting to death unarmed, fleeing protestors who are exercising their First Amendment rights. The deployment of troops on U.S. soil is scary. It invites protest.

It demands diligent, judicious use of force and the ultimate level of accountability.

Truly heinous acts

Fresno leader: ICE is not a danger or threat to our communities | Opinion,” (sacbee.com, Jan. 6)

Targeting cities, raiding Home Depots, construction sites, courthouses, churches and school drop-off zones is indefensible. The separation of families, inhumane detention camps and the fatal shootings of American civilians by government agents are heinous acts.

Kiley ignores Trump’s wrongdoings

Where Kevin Kiley might run in California in 2026,” (sacbee.com, Feb. 3)

The idea that “a run for CA Senate may be a safer path” for Rep. Kevin Kiley rings true given his continued preoccupation with Gov. Gavin Newsom and the supposed corruption being visited on the state. Kiley would be more comfortable here where he can fight openly with Newsom than in D.C where he has to turn a blind eye to President Donald Trump’s blatant corruption every day.

Kiley’s desire to root out fraud in California is belied by his unwavering support for the corrupt Trump administration.

A betrayal

How KVIE’s pricey fight with CapRadio is an epic mistake,” (sacbee.com, Feb. 11)

KVIE’s effort to take over Capital Public Radio is a betrayal of its supporters. With the demise of federal funding for public TV and radio, every penny counts locally. We who support both KVIE and Cap Radio want them both as independent sources of information. We who donate to KVIE do not wish our dollars to go to media monopolization.

Sacramento State declined the buyout. We hope Cap Radio survives, but we reject the application of our donations to KVIE being used for acquisition.
