State Sen. Scott Wiener on Wednesday announced his candidacy for former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s congressional seat, though Pelosi has not yet declared her intentions for 2026. Wiener has represented San Francisco and northern San Mateo County in the state Senate since 2016. He is the chair of the Senate Budget Committee and co-chair of the California Legislative Jewish Caucus. Wiener previously served as a member of the city’s Board of Supervisors, chaired the San Francisco County Transportation Authority and practiced law, including nearly a decade as a deputy city attorney in the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office, according to his online bio.
