Two people rescued in separate incidents in Black’s Beach area

Two people were rescued in separate incidents on the same day around Black’s Beach in La Jolla, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department

A paraglider who had to be rescued Feb. 7 after crashing into a cliff above the beach escaped without injuries, the department said.

Shortly after 2:15 p.m., lifeguards responded to reports of a paraglider who had crashed and gotten stuck on the cliff, city spokeswoman Candace Hadley said.

“Using a twin-line rescue system, lifeguards accessed and assessed the patient, who was found without injury,” Hadley said. “Lifeguards safely lowered the individual to the beach in the Saddleback area and helped retrieve the glider.”

Hadley said a Fire-Rescue Department helicopter was initially requested for support but was canceled once lifeguards determined the person was not injured.

At 5:17 p.m. the same day, an injured and unconscious person was reported at the bottom of Citizens Trail near Black’s Beach, Hadley said.

“Lifeguards worked … to rescue the patient using a technical rope system and transported them onto the beach to be evaluated by paramedics,” she said.

An update on the person’s condition was not immediately available.
