COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man believed to be in his 20s after his body was discovered Monday morning near Proud Lake.
Authorities said a park visitor found the man before 9 a.m., near the Huron Fishing Site in Commerce Township. Deputies and investigators spent hours at the scene investigating.
Talyn Wagner Arevalo and other teens with his homeschool group were in the area Monday morning.
“Just police everywhere and blood like all over the place, it’s just crazy,” said Arevalo.
Arevalo was not the person who discovered the body, but he and several other teens said they saw the man’s body on the ground and deputies nearby. The teens, whose parents gave permission for them to speak, said they typically visit the park every Monday as part of a weekly homeschool outing with about 30 other children.
And what happened Monday, Feb. 16, left the teens trying to process their emotions.
“I was just surprised,” Arevalo said. “We were just out here hiking, and there was just a dead guy out here, so I didn’t even know what to think,” Arevalo said.
Arevalo’s brother, Zalyn Wagner, said the experience left him wanting answers.
“It’s insane something could happen like this,” Wagner said.
Local 4 reached out to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office for more information. The public information officer for the department said they have no more information at this time.
