Longtime Springfield Township firefighter Lt. Jonathan Miner, 50, was killed this week at his home after suffering a traumatic injury, the township fire department announced in a post on Facebook Monday.
Miner died at a local hospital Sunday, Oct. 19, the Springfield Township Fire Department said in a release. First responders were dispatched just after 10:30 a.m. Sunday for a reported traumatic injury after “something had just blown up” while a man was working on a project in his driveway.

The patient was confirmed to be off-duty firefighter Lt. Miner.
“It’s with broken hearts that we share the sudden and tragic passing of Lt. Jonathan Miner, at just 50 years old. Jon was so much more than a firefighter, he was a devoted husband, father, and proud ‘Papa’ whose world revolved around his family,” the GoFundMe page organized by Cory Strickland said in the description.
Miner, who worked for Oakland County’s Springfield Township Fire Department for 30 years leaves behind a wife and family.
“He gave his heart, his time, and his strength to others, always the first to lend a hand and the last to walk away when someone needed help. His presence, sense of humor, and genuine care made him one of a kind,” according to the description on a GoFundMe account set up for this family.
The GoFundMe account for Miner had raised more than $13,000 as of Tuesday morning, Oct. 21, with the beneficiary listed as Deena Miner. The family is hoping to raise $16,000 to ease the financial burden of funeral costs, according to the page.
