OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatal shooting of an Inkster man whose body was found near a Commerce Township lake.
The body was found early Monday morning in Commerce Township near the Proud Lake boat launch on Wixom Road.
Police have identified the person as Andre Sontay Avant, Jr., a 19-year-old from Inkster.
The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office concluded the cause of death was a gunshot wound and the manner of death was homicide, according to a Tuesday, Feb. 17, news release from the sheriff’s office.
“This was a brutal and senseless homicide that has left a family and community searching for answers,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement. “We are committed to pursuing justice for this individual and holding every person involved fully accountable. We need the public’s help — if you saw anything suspicious in the area or have any information, no matter how small it may seem, please come forward. There is a reward being offered, and your information could be the key to bringing those responsible to justice.”
Avant’s body was found by a park visitor, according to the release.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest.
