A California woman has been charged with murder after her boyfriend was found decapitated in her home and she fled to Mexico, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

In a gruesome scene, the headless body of Enrique Gonzalez-Carbajal, 55, was found in the Anaheim, Calif., home of Alyssa Marie Lira, 23, on Aug. 25.

According to investigators, Lira is an exotic dancer who met the victim where she worked. They’d been dating for two months.

After discovering the body, cops identified Lira as a suspect and learned she’d crossed the border into Mexico.

Homicide detectives in Anaheim worked with the FBI in Mexico, authorities in Mexico and the Orange County District Attorney’s office to track down Lira, authorities said.

After several months, she was found hiding out at a home in Mexico and taken into custody on Jan. 22. Mexican authorities turned Lira over to Anaheim police at a border checkpoint the following day.

Besides the murder rap, Lira has also been charged with personally using a weapon. She was held without bail pending a February hearing. If convicted of both felony charges, she faces a sentence of 25 years to life.

“Nothing — not time, not distance nor foreign borders — will thwart our pursuit of justice,” Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in a release.

“Orange County law enforcement will continue to go to the very ends of the Earth to carry out our mission and hold criminals accountable for the heinous acts they commit.”
