Spring has yet to spring, but the summer concert season is already starting to heat up with Tuesday’s announcements of San Diego-bound concert tours by Santana, The Doobie Brothers, Thee Sacred Souls and the Australian trio Rüfüs Du Sol, which appears set to become the first EDM (short for Electronic Dance Music) band to headline a full-stadium show at Petco Park.
The announcement of these tours came on the same day Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band unveiled their spring concert trek, which will skip San Diego in favor of shows in Los Angeles and San Francisco. But even without Springsteen, fans here have a growing array of live-music options coming up.
Latin-rock pioneer Carlos Santana, who cut his teeth on guitar as a teenager playing in Tijuana nightclubs, will rock on down the highway this summer on a joint tour with his band and fellow Rock & Roll Hall of Famers The Doobie Brothers.
Their itinerary includes an Aug. 11 concert at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in Chula Vista. It will be Carlos Santana’s first area appearance since he received a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award last month.

Australia’s Grammy-winning Rüfüs Du Sol is mounting a North American stadium tour that includes an Aug. 15 performance at Petco Park, while the San Diego neo-soul band Thee Sacred Souls will perform Aug. 28 at the adjacent Gallagher Square at Petco Park with La Lom and The Womack Sisters.
Other EDM acts have performed at concerts and festivals at Petco Park before, most notably the 2011 double-bill of Deadmau5 and Avicii. But Rüfüs Du Sol appears to be the first that will headline a full stadium show at the downtown ballpark.
Their Petco Park show adds to the growing list of full-stadium concerts at Petco Park this year. The list includes shows by Ed Sheeran, My Chemical Romance, Noah Kahan, Fuerza Regidacq and San Diego’s Pierce The Veil. Gallagher Square already has already announced 12 concerts in addition to Thee Sacred Souls.
