Police are investigating an assault that reportedly happened on the night of Valentine’s Day at Santana Row.

A man said he was badly beaten by a group of people who asked him if he was affiliated with a gang.

The victim spoke to NBC Bay Area on Tuesday and said he was leaving Vbar inside Hotel Valencia when a group of people followed him out.

“I remember being on the floor, not fighting back,” said the victim, who wanted to remain anonymous.

The man said his girlfriend tried to intervene, but someone hit her and she fell to the ground.

Both the man and his girlfriend were transported to a hospital.

Police said an investigation is ongoing. NBC Bay Area reached out to Santana Row to see if security was present during the reported incident, but has not heard back.
