A “city-wide sweep” by the Santa Ana Police Department last week resulted in 92 arrests for a variety of crimes and other offenses.

According to the SAPD, 13 persons were arrested for felonies, 13 for trespassing on railroad tracks, 76 misdemeanors and 10 arrests “subject pursuant to Proposition 36.”

That’s a new state law – approved by voters in 2024 – that increases penalties for certain theft and drug crimes while creating a felony option for eligible offenders.

Also last week, SAPD officers investigating an assault with a deadly weapon, served a search warrant at a home and took the primary suspect – a convicted felon – into custody.

Officers learned he was in possession of a firearm, seized it and arrested the suspect.

Additionally, patrol officers doing a patrol check in the 1400 block of Minnie Street recognized a male subject who was a “documented gang member” who was on active probation.

He fled, said police, and was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit. Officers found a loaded firearm the suspect had discarded. He was arrested and booked on several felony charges.
