Cal Fire says lightning strikes caught more than 100 palm trees on fire.
The fire was reported Tuesday morning in San Pasqual Valley, near the San Diego Zoo Wild Animal Park.
Cal Fire reports the fire was contained to about two acres and did not involve any buildings.
Firefighters will continue to monitor the site as smoldering trees were reported into overnight hours. Arborists say the trees will not likely recover.
