FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26) — A group of mayors, former officials, and labor leaders unveiled a proposal they’re calling Fix Our Roads, a 20-year plan they say would replace Measure C.
Measure C is a half-cent sales tax approved by Fresno voters back in 1986 to improve roads.
It funds road repairs and highway projects, but it’s about to expire.
The Transportation Improvement Act was announced just a few weeks ago.
It’s a separate citizen-led proposal backed by community groups and Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer.
It would extend the tax for 30 years and direct more funding toward transit projects.
The announcement of Fix Our Roads was proposed by a mix of current and former city leaders.
It is a 20-year extension of Measure C and would cost $3.9 billion
82% of that would go towards fixing roadways

Clovis Mayor pro tem Dianne Pierce said, “Every elected official representing a municipality in Fresno County will tell you unequivocally that we absolutely need a roads measure to fund the infrastructure needs of our communities and region.”

The proposal would apply countywide if approved by voters in November.
