SACRAMENTO, Calif — An off-duty Sacramento police detective stopped a person who was later found in possession of a handgun from entering a school mass during Ash Wednesday.
According to the department, the officer was attending the all-school mass as a parent observer at the St. Mary Parish School on the 1300 block of 58th Street. While there, he noticed a “suspicious person” approach the church and asked to come inside.
The off-duty detective spoke with the person and, during that interaction, located and removed a handgun from them, police said.
The detective detained the person until uniformed officers arrived. The person was arrested on firearm-related charges.
