Tour leader Daniel Tamale says the importance of sharing the voices of African children runs deep.
“I think it’s really important for people to come out and experience our culture but at the same time know the reason as to why the African Children’s Choir is on tour,” Tamale said. “The main reason is for them to get funding so that they can be in school, get an education, and at the end of the day, impact their communities in many, many ways.”
The African Children’s Choir first toured North America in 1984.

Over the past 41 years, the choir has been nominated for a Grammy Award, sung with famous singers and even performed for royals.
Tamale says the biggest accomplishment over the years has been the impact made back home in Africa.
“In the past 41 years, the choir has been able to educate over 59,000 children,” Tamale said. “And that truly being the main reason as to why Ray Barnett started in 1984, having seen the potential and the dignity of the African child. He thought music is the best way to bring awareness to the people to help support children through an education.”
