LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State had two more weekly award winners from the Big West, as the conference office announced Monday that Nina Sepulveda was the Big West Freshman of the Week and Isabella Alonso was the Big West Pitcher of the Week after two All-Tournament Team performances at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
 
Isabella Alonso carried the pitching load for Long Beach State from Puerto Vallarta, going a perfect 3-0 in three starts and posting a 2.21 ERA. She finished the weekend with a 0.95 WHIP to remain among national leaders in that category and earned All-Tournament Team honors in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
 
The MVP of the tournament, Nina Sepulveda was already having a great tournament before a memorable final game against Eastern Kentucky. In a 9-1 win, Sepulveda had six RBI, hitting a two-run double after a grand slam that opened up the game. For the week, Sepulveda hit .385 and had 11 RBI along with a double, a walk and a stolen base.
 
Malayna Terrones earned Big West Field Player of the Week honors in the opening week of the season, as Long Beach State has now won all three weekly awards through two weeks of the season.
 
Long Beach State will play five games at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic this weekend, beginning with BYU on Friday at 3 p.m. from Cathedral City, Calif.
