CULVER CITY, CA — Two people have been arrested in connection to a shooting in the Westfield Culver City parking lot that left one man dead and another injured. Police said on Wednesday that investigators have determined the Feb. 13 incident was a robbery that ended in gunfire and the man who was killed is a suspect in the robbery.

Officers responded to multiple calls regarding gunshots in the north parking lot of the mall off Sepulveda Boulevard at around 7:25 p.m. Friday. Upon arrival, police found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Culver City Police Department.

The man, later identified as 25-year-old Angel Torres of Los Angeles, confronted several other people in the parking lot while armed with a gun. “During the incident, Torres sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead,” police said.

A second suspect in the robbery was also wounded in the shooting. The suspect, Kejuan Griggs, 27, of Los Angeles, was later located by police at a local hospital and arrested on suspicion of murder, two counts of attempted murder, robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery, according to police.

Griggs is being held on $4.25 million bail.

Kelsi Ann Taplette, 28, of Los Angeles, was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery and accessory after the fact. Taplette is being held on $50,000 bail.

“At this time, investigators believe there are additional individuals involved who were victims of the robbery. Detectives are actively seeking to identify and speak with these individuals as part of the ongoing investigation,” police said.
