A cool breeze and cloudy skies set the tone Sunday morning, Feb. 8, at the Seawolf Soccer Field, where Sonoma State’s men’s club soccer team faced Northeastern Oakland University. With students and family members lining the sidelines, the Seawolves came out with energy and intensity from the opening whistle.

Sonoma State controlled the match from start to finish, earning a 6-2 victory. The win marked the Seawolves’ second victory over Northeastern Oakland this spring season after opening the spring schedule against the same opponent. With the result, Sonoma State improved to 2-1 on the season and remained undefeated in spring play.

From the start, the Seawolves controlled possession and kept much of the game in Northeastern Oakland’s half. Sonoma State won the majority of 50-50 balls and moved the ball quickly, forcing its opponent to chase on defense. Northeastern Oakland attempted to generate offense through counterattacks, but Sonoma State’s defense responded quickly, shutting down dangerous opportunities and preventing the visitors from establishing rhythm.

Even when Northeastern Oakland found success and scored, the Seawolves remained composed. Sonoma State answered with quick offensive pressure, responding with goals of its own. The Seawolves controlled the midfield and found consistent success attacking through the wings. Sonoma State entered halftime with a 3-1 lead after a strong first-half performance.

In the second half, Northeastern Oakland added another goal, but Sonoma State maintained control. The Seawolves made key substitutions, showcasing their depth while continuing to apply offensive pressure. Sonoma State added three more goals in the second half to secure the 6-2 win.

The victory stands as Sonoma State’s most complete performance of the spring season so far. The Seawolves demonstrated their ability to generate offense while remaining disciplined defensively, signaling strong potential as the season continues.
