Team Canada needed all the firepower that they could muster up against Czechia. Coach Jon Cooper saw veteran Sidney Crosby go down which prompted many of their young guns to step up. Who rose to the occasion the most which led to the 4-3 overtime win at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics? It was none other than teenage San Jose Sharks sensation Macklin Celebrini.

Sharks prodigy turns into Olympics legend

While many are talking about Mitch Marner winning the game or Crosby going down, Celebrini popping off for Coach Cooper’s squad should not be discounted. The Sharks superstar notched two records at the Olympics. He became the first Canadian player in any Olympics featuring NHL stars to score a goal in four straight games. Overall, Celebrini was just the fourth player to do that. He sits in the ranks of Sweden’s Mats Sundin, Slovakia’s Marian Hossa, and Finland’s Teemu Selanne, per Shawn Roarke of NHL.com.

Moreover, Celebrini also became the first teenager to notch multiple three-point games in any Olympics where NHL players are participating. He also leads the Olympics men’s hockey tournament with his five goals. To round all of this out, his impeccable passing against Czechia also helped Marner get open for the game-winning goal that sent them to the Milano Cortina Olympics semifinals.

There is still much that Celebrini needs to learn in order to become a full-proof legend. As of the moment, he can focus on pushing the gas further to help Team Canada’s offense at the Olympics. Their next hurdle will be Finland and Coach Cooper will need more of them to show up in order to make up for Crosby not being around.
