GALVESTON, Texas — Just in time for spring break, the Texas General Land Office says one of Galveston’s beaches has gotten a massive upgrade.
More than 5,300 feet of shore at Hershey Beach has been restored on the island’s West End.
The beach has been closed for months as crews pumped in nearly 378,000 cubic yards of sand to fight erosion. For context, that’s enough sand to fill NRG Stadium.
Officials said the project was designed to protect the island from future storms and reopen a popular beach.
