Slamdance Film Festival — Feb. 19-25

The festival by filmmakers, for filmmakers runs across Los Angeles at theaters like Landmark Sunset and 2220 Arts throughout the weekend, beginning with the world premiere of Alexandre Rockwell’s The Projectionist, produced by Quentin Tarantino and Jack Auen.

With support from Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels, Compagnie Hervé Koubi makes its Los Angeles premiere with Sol Invictus, a celebration of human connection that blends contemporary dance, hip-hop and martial arts.

Pokémon Go returns for its third L.A. area live event with photo opportunities with Pikachu and Eevee, lifelike Pokémon habitats, special merchandise and more. 

Gladstones Malibu Honors LAFD Heroes — Feb. 20

From 11 a.m. to noon, Angelenos are welcome to join Gladstones as it commemorates the recent one-year anniversary of the Palisades fire by honoring the Los Angeles Fire Department heroes who defended the Malibu community and coastline with a plaque. Complimentary bites and refreshments will also be served.

Timed to the 25-year anniversary of director Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s debut feature, Amores Perros, LACMA presents a curated selection of the million feet of film left on the cutting room during the film’s edit. The multisensory installation is on view through July 26.

Catch actor Simon Rex helming the Tacos 1986 booth at Smorgasburg in celebration of the forthcoming release of Operation Taco Gary’s, out Feb. 27. Alongside tacos, visitors have the chance at taking home movie swag.
