The best food served out of a gas station in the Fresno area — according to a Fresno Bee voters poll — is at the Loma Vista Market.
Located at the northeast corner of McCall Avenue and Highway 180, the Loma Vista Market serves a variety of foods — from Mexican food to fried chicken to frozen yogurt.
Each has its own food court area.
But it’s the Indian food served out of a mini restaurant called Punjabi Naan that’s received much of the praise of why folks should stop by Loma Vista Market for food.
Punjabi Naan serves traditional Indian classics like butter chicken, chana masala and chicken curry.
And don’t forget the garlic naan or the samosa and the selection of dipping sauces.
“Each day, everything is made fresh,” said Punjabi Naan owner Andy Singh, who also owns the entire Loma Vista Market gas station, as well as four other gas stations around the central San Joaquin Valley. “You’re not going to get Indian food at most gas stations. This is very good Indian food — restaurant quality.”

The foundation to most of Punjabi Naan’s Indian food is the chicken, which is marinated the night before in a mixture of herbs and spices that gives the meat a pink, reddish hue.
Then, the chicken is grilled to a sizzle and is used as the anchor to many of the entrées. Each of the different types of Indian sauces has a distinct taste, essentially determining if someone is ordering something like the Punjabi chicken special or the chicken tikka masala.
Punjabi Naan also specializes in vegetarian entrées, such as a veggie korma (a mildly spicy Indian curry with a rich, creamy sauce) or a Kadhi rice bowl (a thick and tangy yogurt-based curry served over steamed rice, and can come with or without the chicken).

Raman Singh, who has been a chef for 13 years, is the creator of the Punjabi Naan foods.
Is Punjabi Naan so good that it should become its own brick-and-mortar restaurant, similar to how Mega Texas Barbecue eventually graduated from operating out of a gas station before becoming its own restaurant?
That’s for customers to decide.

Singh, meanwhile, already owns a restaurant as a partner in The Yellow Chilli — a gourmet Indian restaurant near the intersection of Palm and Herndon avenues.
So Singh not only knows what good Indian food is all about. None of the entrées are pre-made, so customers will want to account for the wait time while their orders are made.
For more of a grab-and-go meal, customers will want to consider some of the other food court options .
Said Singh: “ It’s easy to find something good to eat here.”
