Most Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) stations are experiencing outages affecting both 911 and direct business lines, officials said Thursday.

Deputy Daniel Dominguez of the LASD Sheriff Information Bureau confirmed that shortly after 6:00 p.m. Thursday, “the Department was notified of an outage affecting the Vesta System, a third-party public safety call-handling platform… impacting 9-1-1 calls within the Sheriff’s Department’s jurisdiction.”

In response to the outage, “9-1-1 calls are being automatically redirected to patrol station business phone lines to help ensure continued emergency response coverage,” the department shared in a public advisory, adding that they have “deployed department electricians to assess and address the issue and are working closely with the third-party telecommunications provider to restore full service as quickly as possible.”

While the issue is widespread, not all stations are affected. Individual stations experiencing problems are posting alerts on their social media accounts.

The Palmdale Sheriff’s Station issued an advisory noting that text-to-911 remains operational.

“At this time, 911 lines and Sheriff’s Station business lines are experiencing a countywide outage. Text-to-911 remains operational for Palmdale Sheriff’s Station,” said the Palmdale Sheriff Department on a social media post.

Residents who cannot reach 911 by phone are urged to text 911 with their exact location, type of emergency, and name. Dispatch personnel are actively monitoring and responding to these emergency text messages.

“We appreciate the community’s understanding and want to reassure our residents that we are taking all necessary steps to maintain emergency response services while this issue is being resolved. Department personnel are proactively planning for contingencies to ensure continuity of service and to limit any potential disruption to emergency response operations,” the advisory stated.

Officials encouraged the public to share the information with family, friends, and neighbors.

Updates will be provided as they become available.

There was no estimate on how long the outage would be in place.
