(FOX40.COM) — A Northern California resort that’s located in a popular destination for Sacramento travelers has been named as the best in the Golden State.
Auberge de Soleil Resort was ranked the best resort in all of California, according to U.S. News & World Report’s latest rankings. The Napa County resort is in Rutherford, a small town in the renowned Napa Valley, about 50 miles west of Sacramento.

It’s ranked the third-best resort in the U.S., placed behind two Hawaii resorts: Four Seasons Resort Hualalai in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, and Four Seasons Resort Lanai in Lanai City, Lanai.
Auberge de Soleil Resort rooms range from $1,175 a night for the garden view room up to $5,100 a night for the deluxe private mansion.
“It’s a splurge,” according to a review by Condé Nast Traveler, a luxury and lifestyle magazine. “But you’ll end up having so much life-changingly good wine you’ll hardly remember the bill.”
Resorts and hotels were ranked based on several factors, including awards and recognition, the hotel’s class, and guest ratings.

“What started out as a Provence-style fine-dining restaurant in Northern California is now a full-fledged sanctuary for the senses,” according to Forbes.
About 3.7 million people visited Napa Valley in 2023, according to Visit Napa Valley’s 2023 Economic Impact Report, spending about $2.5 billion on local businesses. Roughly 1 million of those stayed overnight in hotels or motels.
The rankings feature more than 30,000 hotels across 400 destinations.
