Long-time Horseshoe Beach resident named Dixie County Citizen of the Year

  • February 20, 2026

HORSESHOE BEACH, Fla. (WCJB) – Tammy Bryan, a longtime Horseshoe Beach resident, was recently recognized by the Dixie County Chamber of Commerce as “Citizen of the Year.”

Bryan owns Compass Realty and two businesses: Horseshoe Beach Outfitters and Little Island Store in Buckley’s Square.

In her free time, she spearheads fundraisers supporting local schools, the sheriff’s department, and the county.

“I work behind the scenes and do whatever it takes to make Dixie County a part of the map for tourism and for the people who want a slower pace of life,” Bryan said.

Bryan is currently organizing a fishing tournament supporting the Dixie County High School football team on Feb. 28.

She became a chamber member one year ago and has focused on helping businesses recover from hurricanes.

“She was a great asset to getting lots of new people and business in Horseshoe back up and running after the hurricanes,” said Debbie DeWeese of the Dixie County Chamber. “We have had a lot of people in the chamber work for years, and Tammy is new and young, and we are looking for that in our area.”

County Manager John Jenkins said Bryan’s award is deserved.

“Tammy Bryan is my favorite person from Horseshoe, and I congratulate her on her award; it is very deserved, and we appreciate all she does,” Jenkins said.

Bryan said her favorite activity is saltwater fishing in Horseshoe Beach.

“As long as we continue to work together, encourage each other, and lift each other, Dixie County will always be the best place to live,” Bryan said.

At the same meeting, Barbie and Darryl Higginbotham received the Raymond Warren award. They own Taste of Dixie Diner.
