BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — An SUV that made a U-turn on Highway 178 in northeast Bakersfield ended in a crash with a couple on a motorcycle Sunday morning, leaving them severely injured.
The Bakersfield Police Department said on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at around 9:38 a.m., officers were called to a reported injury crash at Highway 178 and Comanche Drive.
When officers arrived, they found a white Honda CR-V and a black Harley Davidson motorcycle involved in a crash in the 13300 block of Highway 178.
BPD said a preliminary investigation found that both vehicles were traveling eastbound on Highway 178 when the driver of the Honda CR-V initiated a U-turn, resulting in a crash with the motorcycle.
The driver of the CR-V sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene. The motorcyclist, identified as a man, and a passenger, identified as a woman, both suffered severe injuries and were taken to a hospital, where they remain in critical condition.
Police said at this time, neither speed nor impairment is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
