ROCHESTER, Mich. – After hosting Bradley on Thursday, the Oakland women’s tennis team will hit the road again to face Davenport on Saturday at the MVP SportsPlex.

Oakland (2-6) last played on Thursday, falling to Bradley, 4-2. The team’s most recent win came against Dayton on Feb. 7, nearly two weeks ago. The Golden Grizzlies aim to secure another victory before their long-awaited spring break trip in early March.

Since moving to the No. 1 doubles court, juniors Emilia Jarvinen and Edie Hammond are 3-0 and will look to extend their streak to four over the last two weekends of play. Hammond is also on a two-match singles win streak and is 5-3 this season. She trails only freshman Oliwia Klimas, who leads the Golden Grizzlies with a 6-2 record.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS

Davenport (4-1) opened the winter season with a 4-0 start, including a 4-3 victory over Northwood — a team Oakland also defeated 4-3 earlier this season. The Panthers’ run ended in their most recent match, a 4-3 loss to Walsh University.

The Golden Grizzlies and Panthers will meet for the third time ever this weekend, with Oakland holding a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series. The teams previously faced off in 2015 and, most recently, in 2024, when Jarvinen and senior Tara Montreuil earned a doubles win by retirement. The duo led 4-1 before Davenport retired from the match.

Jarvinen, the Horizon League’s Freshman of the Year that season, dominated her singles match, 6-2, 6-1, on the No. 1 court. Her win, combined with the doubles point and three additional singles victories, secured a 5-2 decision over Davenport.

Oakland will host Davenport for the first time this weekend, and will look to extend its record against the Panthers to 3-0.
