ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Golden Grizzlies earned their third and fourth wins in a row, with two decisive wins over Lourdes on Friday.
GAME 1
Oakland defeated Lourdes University 8-3 IN their opening action of the day, using a four-run fourth inning and a three-run sixth to secure the win.
Oakland secured an 8-3 victory over Lourdes. The game started quietly, with both teams scoreless through the first inning. In the bottom of the second, Autumn Liebhauser put Oakland on the board with a solo home run to left field, giving the home team a 1-0 lead.
The fourth inning saw Oakland extend its lead significantly. With Brooklyn Wyczalek and Taylor Carraway on base, Alyssa Balcom delivered a two-run double to center field. Alexa Kownacki followed with a single, bringing in two more runs. By the end of the inning, Oakland led 5-0.Â
In the sixth inning, after Lourdes scored two runs, Oakland responded. Carraway singled and was replaced by pinch runner Annabel Power, who scored on a sacrifice fly by Storm Kentros. Balcom doubled again, this time driving in Liebhauser. A throwing error allowed Balcom to score, increasing the lead to 8-2.Â
Lourdes managed one more run in the seventh, but Oakland maintained its lead to secure the win.Â
Kenna Bommarito pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs while striking out 11 batters for the second straight game. She faced 25 batters and issued only one walk, maintaining control throughout most of her outing.
Autumn Liebhauser recorded two hits, including a double and a home run, while driving in one run and scoring twice. Alyssa Balcom tallied two hits, both doubles, and drove in three runs while crossing the plate twice. Kenna Bommarito pitched 6 2/3 innings, striking out 11 batters and allowing three hits in her appearance. Taylor Carraway contributed with two hits and scored once, adding depth to the lineup.
GAME 2
Oakland closed the day with a  7-2 win, earning their fourth straight home victory.
Oakland capitalized early with a five-run first inning, setting the pace for the remainder of the game, while Lourdes managed to score only twice.
Oakland secured a decisive victory over Lourdes with a final score of 7-2. The first inning set the tone for Oakland, as it scored five runs. Autumn Liebhauser walked, and Addison Kopp reached on a fielder’s choice. Kam Troyer singled, and Kayla Turmell followed with an RBI single. Alyssa Balcom’s double drove in two more runs, and Storm Kentros capped the inning with a two-run homer. Oakland led 5-0 after the first inning.
In the third inning, Kopp scored again after reaching base. Balcom contributed with a single that brought Troyer home, extending Oakland’s lead to 6-1 by the end of the inning.
The fifth inning saw another scoring opportunity as Troyer walked and Kama Skrek, as a pinch runner, scored on Balcom’s single, increasing Oakland’s lead to 7-1.
Lourdes managed to add one run in the sixth inning, but Oakland held its lead. The game concluded with a final score of 7-2 in favor of Oakland.
Jessica Nelson pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 runs, with only 1 being earned, while striking out 5 and walking 2 across 23 batters faced. Nelson’s effort was highlighted by her ability to limit damage with runners on base, as she allowed no hits in those situations. Mary Newton provided 1 1/3 innings of relief, giving up just 1 hit and no runs, while striking out 1 and walking none, effectively maintaining the lead established by Nelson.
Kam Troyer recorded two hits, scored twice, and added a double in the contest. Alyssa Balcom delivered three hits and drove in four runs, contributing significantly to Oakland’s scoring. Storm Kentros contributed a home run, a double, and two RBIs, while also adding two hits.
In their next game, Oakland will face Delaware State University on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 10 a.m. in Dover, Delaware.
