When Oscar winners hear their name announced from the grand stage at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, they usually make quick work of hurrying up to the microphone to gratefully gush and give thanks.

Running to the stage, however? The taffeta-clad, tux’d-out guests generally skip sprinting, as a rule. Politely hustle, the nominees might, and the occasional slow jog is observed, but generally a stately strut to the stage is the decorum observed at the Oscars.

Still, exactly one week before the big 2026 awards show, there will be swift and steady running, and lots of it, near an Oscars-inspired red carpet.

For the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is teaming up with the ASICS LA Marathon to present an Oscars-themed experience at Mile 11 during the marathon, which is set for Sunday, March 8.

And if you guessed Mile 11 is on Hollywood Boulevard near the Dolby Theatre, right where the Oscars will shimmer on March 15, you’d be correct.

Marathon participants can leave their tuxedos and strappy high heels at home; the cinematic scene is all about pairing movie magic with marathon moxie.

“We are thrilled to partner with the ASICS Los Angeles Marathon in this unique and interactive way,” said Academy Chief Marketing, Communications and Content Officer Jennifer Davidson.

“The Academy celebrates the passion, excellence, and hard work of our global filmmaking community, and we look forward to sharing this excitement with the runners ahead of the 98th Oscars.”

Runners will have the chance to take a Tinseltown-flavored photo near the Dolby Theatre; other Oscar-themed sights will add shimmer to the Mile 11, which is just a couple of miles out from the event’s you’re-almost-halfway-there point, an anticipated marker.

Perhaps the gold and the glimmer of the Academy Awards experience will be just the oomph that some marathoners are looking for as they speed into the middle section of the city-spanning event.

“As the largest community event in Los Angeles, the ASICS Los Angeles Marathon welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with area stakeholders,” said Murphy Reinschreiber, The McCourt Foundation’s Chief Operating Officer.

“Partnering with the Academy allows us to celebrate our runners as the stars they are. Mile 11 will also be a fitting celebration of the City of Los Angeles — grit and glamour.”

Grit, gumption, and gotta-get-it-done-a-tude propel runners over 26.2 miles, and the same sort of drive can be found in any filmmaker, star, or craftsperson who is intent on rising through the movie industry.

Call it a marathon-worthy mash-up, one that will lend Mile 11 some extra wattage, and a little whimsy, come March 8.
