In the article about Kristi Noem’s visit to San Diego, she was quoted as saying “That’s 1.7 billion lives that are saved because of the work [CBP in the San Diego area] do.” Seriously? There are a total of 3.3 million people in the San Diego metro area. There are a total of 348.4 million people in the United States. And there are 8 billion people in the world. Doing the math, Noem’s statement means that the work of CBP in San Diego County alone has saved 1 of every 4.7 people on the planet, or 21% of the world’s population. I don’t know about you, but I’m skeptical.
