BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield Police Department shared a recording of a phone call the department says is referenced in the viral TikTok video claiming to expose a rude 911 dispatcher.

A Tiktok user named Natalie was the first to post about the rude dispatcher on Feb. 11, garnering over 8.5 million views and 1.4 million likes as of Friday.

The department initiated an internal review to assess the situation and the quality of its service, officials said in a release on Friday.

Upon review, officials confirmed the call referenced in the TikTok was made to the BPD Communications Center on Nov. 4, 2021.

The audio captures a conversation between a 22-year-old woman named Natalie and a dispatcher running for about four minutes, according to police. In the call, the woman reports a domestic violence incident involving her boyfriend.

Three additional calls were made back to the caller by different dispatchers to get more details and coordinate with an officer.

In those calls, Natalie says she wants to go to the police station in person rather than having an officer respond. Neither the dispatcher nor the caller raises their voice at the other, the recording indicates.

“In each of these calls, our call-takers provided courteous and professional communication consistent with the service expectations of our organizations,” Bakersfield police said in the release.

BPD said it released a copy of the recorded audio for transparency. Officials said they have also made contact with the person who posted the original video as part of their internal review.

Several BPD employees have been accused of the call with their names circulating online, but none of the employees were involved in the call from 2021, according to police.
