SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — People can now register to bid on more than 680 properties available through this year’s online property tax auction.
San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector (TTC) Larry Cohen announced the start of bidder registration earlier this week, stating people must register online by March 3 to participate in the auction.
Each year, the county hosts a property tax auction to sell properties that have been in tax default for at least five years, Cohen said in a news release.
There is a total of 686 listed for sale during this year’s auction from March 13-18. Properties include 70 that have been improved, 66 unimproved and 550 timeshares.
All sales are final. Cohen’s office encourages people to research the process on its website prior to participating.
Owners of the properties going up for auction can still avoid going to sale if they redeem their parcels and pay all taxes and fees owed by 5 p.m. on March 12.
According to the TTC, every effort is made to contact the owners to let them know about the impending sales of their properties.
The list of auctioned properties can be viewed here.
Bidder registration requires a refundable $1,000 deposit and a non-refundable $35 processing fee, although some parcels may require a larger deposit.
